Complaint Filing:

High Plains Fair Housing Center provides direct assistance to individuals who believe they have been discriminated against while attempting to purchase or rent housing.

Federal law prohibits discrimination in housing (including the rental, purchase, and financing of housing) based on your race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, or disability. State law protects against discrimination based on all of those categories, plus several more. The Human Rights Division of the North Dakota Department of Labor is responsible for receiving and investigating complaints alleging unlawful housing discrimination under either federal or state law.

If you have been trying to buy or rent a home or apartment and you believe your fair housing rights have been violated, contact High Plains Fair Housing Center by telephone (701-203-1077 or 1-866-380-2738) or email highplainsfairhousing@gmail.com. Provide a brief summary of your situation, and tell us how to contact you for an intake interview.

The fair housing specialist will call you back to discuss the situation in detail and determine if it alleges acts that might violate fair housing laws.

The fair housing specialist will discuss your potential further options and, where appropriate, offer to assist you in filing a housing discrimination complaint with the North Dakota Department of Labor.

It is illegal for anyone to threaten or retaliate against a person who has filed a housing discrimination complaint, or participated in an investigation of a housing discrimination complaint.
